Following is a summary of council actions taken at the June 5 and July 5, 2000 regular legislative sessions and the June 26, July 13, and July 14 special legislative sessions.. Absences, abstentions and opposing votes are noted.
Regular Legislative Session
June 5, 2000
- Approved request to County Council for Mixed-Use Town Center designation for revitalization area designated in 1993.
- Reaffirmed action take in June 1993 to close W. Beale Circle.
- Approved reappointment of members of Ethics Commission: Len Perry (Ward 5), Chair, Members: Edward Schamel (Ward 4) and John Catlett (Ward 1).
- Approved $2500 from Education Fund to award grants of $25 each to eligible parents of Riverdale School students for uniform purchase.
- Approved continued parking permit authority for 4506 and 4508 Oliver Street (Ward 4).
- Approved establishment of permanent Veterans Monument Committee.
- Approved renewal of condemnation process for Town Center buildings owned by Oldline Management, Inc.
Special Legislative Session
June 26, 2000
- Approved initiation of condemnation process for
undeveloped property at intersection of Route 1 and East-West Highway consisting of 2218 square feet, known as Block 31, center 30.5 feet of Lot 1, ex 649 square feet, owned by David and Marianna Judy.
- Introduced 2000-OR-2, "Amendments to Chapter 15, Building Code, §15-7, Permit Applications.
- Approved amendments to FY2000-2001 budget in accordance with charter requirements.
Regular Legislative Session
July 5, 2000
- Approved installation of "Do Not Enter" signs in Greenway Drive and Spring Lane area (Ward 6).
- Approved (partial) request for six-foot fence at 4813 Somerset Road (Ward 1).
- Approved request for five-foot wrought iron fence at 4800 Madison Street (Ward 3).
Special Legislative Session
July 13, 2000
- Approved contract with Santos Construction for town hall improvement project.
- Approved contract with NZI Construction for Tuckerman Street improvement project (Ward 1).
Special Legislative Session
July 14, 2000
- Approved contract with NZI Construction for completion of Oliver Street improvement project (Ward 4).
