Finance Committee Report June/July 2001 |

by Mary Donaldson In June, I completed two years as chair of the Finance Committee with councilmembers Davis and Herman as members. As Finance Chair, I conferred regularly with the town administrator, reviewed monthly financial reports, met with the town's auditor, held meetings both to prepare the annual budget and during the budget year so all councilmembers could review the ratio of revenues received to expense obligations. The town's annual budget is in excess of $3 million and the Finance Committee serves a vital role in monitoring the financial activity of the town office, public works and police departments. It is fortunate that Councilmembers Davis, Herman and Tiberio are familiar with the month-to-month financial operation of the town--both the anticipated expenditures and the projected revenues. This means they can inform the new councilmembers of the town's financial position as they all work to adopt a budget for the coming fiscal year. |
