It's Official
Friday afternoon, July 30, local, state and national officials celebrated the formal opening of Crescent Cities Center (CCC) at the site of Leland Memorial Hospital. Leland was the first hospital in Prince George's County, opening in 1942. Due to financial difficulties, the hospital closed in March of 1993 -- a few months after its 50th anniversary.
In April, CCC began to admit patients to its nursing section; in June the first residents of the assisted living unit were admitted. The concept of CCC is to offer comprehensive senior services which will soon include a public cafeteria, expected to open in the fall. Other services such as senior daycare and an urgent care component available to the community will be phased in over the next year.
Remarks from Gov. Glendening included his satisfaction that opening of this facility allows residents of all of the nearby communities who need senior care services to remain close to their homes.
