by Gerard Kiernan On Saturday, September 18, a meeting was held at town hall to form a committee of residents who will study the feasibility of establishing a community center in the town. The committee report is to be submitted to the Mayor and Council by the end of June, 2000. The group decided to hold the next meeting on Wednesday, October 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Town Hall. Future meetings will be held on the first Wednesday of each month, open to all interested residents. The focus of the next meeting will be preparation of a survey form which will be distributed in the November issue of The Town Crier. Several members of the newly-formed committee accepted assignments to 1) gather information on existing Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning recreation programs 2) learn what recreation programs and facilities are offered by other municipalities and 3) the number of cultural programs offered at Riversdale. In the absence of an offer from any other resident present at the first meeting, I agreed to serve as chair of this committee.
