Chalkboard Notes From the PTA |

By Ray Badders During the first week of the new school year, I stood outside with a teacher, as we watched the children enter the building wearing their new uniforms. I commented on how good the children looked. The teacher turned to me and said: "They are much better behaved as well." Upon reflection, it occurred to me that their behavior had improved because they are wearing their "Sunday Best." They look good, they feel good about themselves and it reflects in their behavior. The PTA is pursuing a modest agenda for this year. Since we have only been chartered and sanctioned for one year, the main emphasis is on leadership training and development. In early November, the state PTA will be conducting leadership training as it reorganizes its County Council of PTAs. The Riverdale Elementary School PTA plans to send a majority of its leaders to this conference. Moreover, we plan to be actively involved participants in the reorganization process. Our first general membership meeting on October 10, 2000 was a huge success. We discussed our new curriculum and there was plenty of thoughtful discussion--in Spanish and English. We will be conducting one or two more general meetings later in the school year, so keep watching our sign on Riverdale Road for those announcements. In closing the Riverdale PTA can only be as active, involved and creative as our members. You don't have to have children enrolled at the school to be a member and the dues are only $5.00 per year per person. You may send a check, payable to the PTA, to my attention at the school, 5000 Riverdale Road. Ray Badders is President of the Riverdale Elementary School PTA and a resident of Ward 3.
